Privacy Policy
Last updated: 7 July 2026
TakeOver is built to keep your data on your own devices. There are no accounts, no profiles and no tracking. This policy explains the little data that is involved and where it lives.
The short version: TakeOver connects your own devices to each other. We don’t have accounts, we don’t collect your files, screen, keystrokes, camera, microphone or contacts, and we don’t sell or share personal data — because we don’t gather it.
1. What we do not collect
We do not collect, store or transmit to ourselves any of the following:
- Your screen contents, keystrokes, clipboard, files, photos or documents;
- Your camera or microphone streams;
- Your contacts, messages, location or browsing history;
- Account details — because there are no accounts;
- Advertising identifiers or cross-app tracking data.
Content you move between your devices (mirror video, audio, files, camera) travels directly between those devices. It does not pass through, and is not stored on, servers we operate.
2. Data that stays on your devices
To pair reliably, the apps keep a small amount of information locally on your own devices:
- A random device/server identifier and a per-pairing secret, so a phone and PC can recognise each other and reconnect;
- Your list of known devices and connection preferences.
This data never leaves your devices except as needed to reach the device you’re connecting to. Removing the app, or clearing its data, deletes it. See Data & Deletion.
3. Connecting over the internet (optional)
On the same Wi-Fi, your devices talk directly and nothing leaves your network. When you connect from away, TakeOver uses:
- A connection-brokering (“rendezvous”) service that helps your two devices find each other and exchange the technical details needed to open a direct link. It relays only small signaling messages and does not store your content.
- STUN/TURN servers to traverse firewalls. If a direct path can’t be established, encrypted media may be relayed through a TURN server purely as a network conduit; it is not retained.
Media is peer-to-peer and encrypted in transit (DTLS-SRTP). To route packets, these services necessarily process network metadata such as IP addresses and connection identifiers for the duration of a session.
4. This website & downloads
This site is a static website hosted on Cloudflare. We do not use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies. As with any website, our hosting provider (Cloudflare) automatically processes standard request data (such as IP address, user-agent and timestamps) to deliver content, serve downloads and protect against abuse, in line with Cloudflare’s privacy policy. Application builds are served from object storage on the same platform. See our Cookie Policy.
5. App permissions
The apps request device permissions (e.g. camera, microphone, local network, notifications) only to provide the feature you invoke — for example, camera access when you use your phone as a webcam or a CCTV camera. Permissions are used on-device to power the feature and are not used to collect data for us. You can revoke them in your OS settings at any time.
6. Children
TakeOver is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect data from them. As we collect no personal data, no child data is gathered.
7. Your rights
Because we don’t hold personal data about you, there is generally nothing for us to access, correct or delete on our side. Where applicable law gives you rights over any data a provider processes on our behalf (e.g. hosting logs), you can contact us and we will help where we are able. If you are in the EEA/UK, see our GDPR notice.
8. Changes
If this policy changes, we’ll update the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, highlight them here.
